Texas – Water could push onto coastal roads by late afternoon, creating hazardous travel and dangerous beach conditions across the Corpus Christi area.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Water levels could rise up to 1 foot above normal, leading to minor inundation, blocked beach access roads, and possible erosion along the shoreline.
At the same time, a high risk of rip currents continues through Sunday. Beaches from Port Aransas to Padre Island are seeing dangerous surf conditions, where swimmers could be quickly pulled away from shore. Officials urge staying out of the water unless near lifeguards.
Storm chances add another layer of concern. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected through Sunday, with rain chances between 35 and 65 percent. The Storm Prediction Center has placed parts of the Brush Country and Rio Grande Plains under a Level 2 risk, meaning a few storms could produce large hail and damaging winds through Sunday evening.
Drivers along SPID, I-37, and coastal routes should be alert for ponding water and reduced visibility during heavier rain.
Looking ahead, conditions begin to dry out early next week, but heat builds quickly. Highs climb from the upper 80s Sunday into the low to mid-90s by midweek.
