Laredo, Texas – Residents across South Texas, including Uvalde and Laredo, should prepare for damaging wind gusts and hail this evening as a severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 11 p.m. CDT Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 241 covers 13 counties, including Webb, Maverick, Starr, and La Salle. The greatest threats include hail up to one inch in diameter, wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, and isolated lightning strikes, especially in rural areas between I-35 and the Rio Grande.
Cities like Eagle Pass, Zapata, and Carrizo Springs may experience sudden downpours and rapid storm development along Highway 83 and U.S. Route 277. Power outages and tree damage are possible in areas where stronger cells form. Outdoor activities should be postponed, and residents are urged to secure loose items and remain indoors when storms approach.
This watch also includes border counties like Jim Hogg and Val Verde, where scattered storm cells could intensify through the evening hours.
