San Angelo, Texas – High winds and large hail could strike West-Central Texas this evening as a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect through 11 p.m. CDT for cities including San Angelo, Sweetwater, and Sterling City.

According to the National Weather Service in Abilene/San Angelo, conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms to develop and move east across the region tonight. The main threats include hail up to 2 inches in diameter and wind gusts reaching 70 mph. Forecasters warn that an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Counties under the watch include Tom Green, Nolan, Runnels, Coke, and Irion. Roads across the region may become hazardous as storms intensify. Residents are urged to stay indoors, secure loose outdoor items, and ensure mobile devices are fully charged in case of power outages.

Sweetwater, Sterling City, and Big Lake sit within the zone of greatest concern. While rain may offer brief cooling relief, the storm’s rapid movement and intensity may lead to downed trees or power lines.

This is the first widespread severe weather threat in the region this month. Additional watches or warnings may be issued later tonight. Residents should stay alert and have multiple ways to receive emergency updates.
