Austin, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is increasing statewide traffic enforcement this Thanksgiving holiday, with additional patrols beginning Wednesday, Nov. 26, through Monday, Dec. 1, 2025. According to DPS, the initiative aims to ensure Texans travel safely during one of the busiest driving periods of the year.

The Texas Highway Patrol will focus on violations including speeding, driving while intoxicated, not wearing seat belts, and failing to follow the Move Over, Slow Down law. Officials urge drivers to be patient and alert, especially during the heavy pre- and post-holiday travel days.

“Texas roads experience a sharp rise in traffic around Thanksgiving,” said Texas Highway Patrol Chief Bryan Rippee. “We’re asking everyone—whether you’re driving a passenger car or commercial truck—to stay alert, be patient, and focus on arriving safely.”

Last year’s Thanksgiving enforcement effort resulted in 45,770 warnings and citations, including 4,082 speeding tickets, 1,284 arrests for driving without insurance, and 214 seat belt violations. DPS also made 206 felony arrests and 162 DWI arrests during the 2024 campaign.

This year’s effort is part of Operation CARE (Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort), a nationwide initiative promoting safe driving during holiday periods. As part of its 90th anniversary, DPS also continues its “Keeping Texas Safe” campaign featuring safety education with K-9 Disco for children and families.

The department encourages drivers to plan ahead, buckle up, and never drive impaired during the Thanksgiving weekend.
