Lubbock, Texas – A streak of stormy summer weather is set to make a return to Lubbock starting Saturday afternoon, with storm chances stretching through midweek. Afternoon temperatures will push near 93°F Saturday, but it’s the scattered thunderstorms and occasional downpours that could disrupt travel along I-27 and nearby counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, isolated thunderstorms may begin as early as 4 p.m. Saturday. While the severe weather threat remains low, gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall could impact outdoor activities, especially Monday night into Tuesday. Lubbock, Hale, Floyd, and Hockley counties are among areas likely to see repeated thunderstorm chances into early July.
Roadways such as U.S. Highway 84 and I-27 may become slick during storm events. Residents are encouraged to avoid flooded intersections, secure loose outdoor items, and monitor alerts through the weekend. While the storms may offer short-term heat relief, humidity levels will remain high through the start of July.
Heading into Independence Day week, Tuesday will bring another round of storms with a 40% chance of afternoon rain and highs near 87°F. The outlook hints at a drying trend just in time for Fourth of July celebrations.
