Houston, TX – A surge of summer storms is set to hit Houston by early Monday afternoon, bringing much-needed rain but also the threat of slick roads and reduced visibility for commuters along I-45 and throughout Harris County.

According to the National Weather Service, a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms will develop after 10 a.m. on Monday, July 14, with storms most likely after 1 p.m. Skies will be mostly sunny between showers, and temperatures will climb to 91°F. Calm winds will shift south at around 5 mph, but isolated downpours could produce brief street flooding—especially in low-lying areas and underpasses near major freeways.

Residents should allow extra travel time and avoid flooded roadways during afternoon storms. Drivers on I-45, I-10, and the 610 Loop should watch for sudden changes in visibility and pooling water. It’s also smart to charge electronic devices ahead of Monday, in case thunderstorms disrupt power for short periods.

While Monday brings the highest storm risk, rain chances linger through Tuesday afternoon, then sunshine returns by Wednesday, with temperatures rising into the low 90s through Friday. Outdoor activities may be safer after midweek as conditions stabilize and heat returns.

Five-Day Houston, TX Weather Preview:

  • Monday [91°F]: 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 10 a.m., especially after 1 p.m.
