Abilene, Texas – Residents across West Central Texas should prepare for another round of severe storms late Tuesday as thunderstorms roll in from the west with the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather remains in place for cities including Abilene, Sweetwater, and Snyder through Tuesday evening and overnight. Storms may develop to the west this afternoon and intensify as they move east into the region by nightfall.

Communities in the path, including Brownwood and San Angelo, could see hail over an inch in diameter and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph. While not widespread, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. The strongest storms are expected between 6 p.m. and midnight.

Drivers are urged to avoid travel during severe weather and secure outdoor items that could become projectiles in high winds. Make sure cell phones are charged and weather alerts are enabled in case warnings are issued after dark.

This is the second wave of severe weather this week. Additional advisories could be issued if storm strength increases. Stay tuned to local alerts through Wednesday morning.
