Amarillo, TX – Spring warmth will hold in Amarillo for a few more days before a strong wind event moves in Friday. Residents can expect highs in the 70s through midweek, but a windy and cooler pattern will take over by the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, Amarillo will see mostly sunny skies with highs near 75°F on Wednesday and Thursday. Winds will gradually increase each day, with gusts reaching 25 mph by Thursday afternoon.

Friday brings the biggest change, with a high of 61°F and very strong winds from the southwest at 20 to 25 mph, increasing to 30 to 35 mph later in the day. Gusts could reach up to 55 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions on I-40 and other major roadways. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use caution.

By Friday night, temperatures will drop into the mid-30s, and breezy conditions will persist. Saturday will be partly sunny but cooler, with a high of just 54°F. Nights will be chilly, with lows in the low 30s.

Looking ahead, Sunday brings mild weather, with highs in the low 60s and mostly clear skies. As spring continues, expect fluctuating temperatures and frequent windy days in the Texas Panhandle.

Residents should prepare for windy conditions, secure loose outdoor objects, and stay updated on weather alerts.
