San Angelo, Texas – Large hail and damaging winds are likely across the Big Country and parts of West Texas late Sunday as severe thunderstorms push through the region into the overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, the most intense storms are expected to develop this evening in areas west and northwest of Abilene, before sweeping into the Concho Valley and Heartland. An Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) is in place for Haskell, Sweetwater, and surrounding counties, with threats including hail over two inches in diameter, wind gusts topping 70 mph, and isolated tornadoes.

Abilene, San Angelo, Brownwood, and Brady should prepare for rapid storm development between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. Monday. Heavy rain in short bursts may trigger flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas. Drivers are urged to avoid travel during peak storm hours, secure outdoor items, and ensure cell phones are charged in case of power outages.

This system could resemble last Thursday night’s storms, which brought similar hazards. The National Weather Service will continue to issue updates as conditions evolve. Severe weather warnings may remain active into early Monday.
