South Texas, Coastal Waters – A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for portions of South Texas, including coastal waters, from 1:40 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. Wednesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued the alert as intense storms are expected to sweep across the region overnight, bringing significant weather hazards.
According to the NWS Storm Prediction Center, the primary threats include damaging winds with gusts potentially reaching up to 75 mph, as well as scattered large hail, with some stones possibly reaching up to 3 inches in diameter. In addition, isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out. A cluster of storms, including supercells, will likely cross Deep South Texas, with the greatest impact expected along a line stretching from 20 miles south of Laredo to 40 miles south-southeast of Corpus Christi.
Residents in the affected areas should stay alert for rapidly changing conditions and be prepared for potential severe weather. The NWS advises keeping an eye on local warnings and taking action if severe storms or tornadoes develop. Those in the storm’s path should avoid non-essential travel, stay indoors, and secure loose outdoor objects.
As the storms move through, be prepared for possible power outages and disruptions to daily activities. The Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 8 a.m. Wednesday, and additional warnings or advisories may follow.
