Houston, TX –
The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston has extended a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for parts of southeast Texas through 5 a.m. Saturday, as strong storms continue moving through the region.
The watch, originally set to expire at 3 a.m., now includes the counties of Grimes, Houston, Madison, Trinity, and Walker. Forecasters warn that damaging winds, lightning, and heavy rainfall remain possible during the early morning hours.
According to the NWS, scattered thunderstorms capable of producing gusty winds and hail may develop across the region before weakening near sunrise. Residents are urged to stay indoors, avoid flooded roads, and monitor local alerts in case warnings are issued.
The storm system is expected to shift eastward by mid-morning, bringing calmer conditions to much of southeast Texas. However, officials recommend staying alert for updated forecasts as lingering showers could persist through Saturday.
