Houston, TX – A Red Flag Warning is in effect for much of Southeast Texas today, with high winds and low humidity creating dangerous fire conditions. The warning, issued by the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, remains active from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST.
According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts up to 45 mph and relative humidity levels as low as 14-18% could rapidly spread any wildfires that ignite. The affected areas include Houston, Galveston, Brazos, Montgomery, Fort Bend, and surrounding counties, particularly those west of Interstate 45.
Officials warn that any fire that starts could grow quickly and become difficult to contain. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, properly dispose of cigarette butts, and secure items that could spark fires in the dry, windy conditions. Fire departments across the region are on high alert due to the increased wildfire risk.
Weather conditions are expected to improve later this evening as winds subside and humidity levels rise. However, residents should remain vigilant and report any signs of fire to local authorities immediately.
