Amarillo, TX – After a cool start to the week, the Texas Panhandle is expected to warm up with breezy conditions returning midweek, according to the National Weather Service in Amarillo. Temperatures will rebound into the upper 70s and low 80s by Wednesday, with southwest winds between 15–25 mph and gusts reaching up to 40 mph possible by Thursday.
According to the NWS, the increased warmth and dry winds will dry out grass and vegetation across Randall and Wheeler counties, areas that have seen several grass fires in the past 30–60 days. While forecasters say critical fire weather is not expected, officials urge residents to remain cautious and practice fire safety, particularly during windy afternoons.
High pressure will weaken midweek as a dry system passes through the area, boosting winds across much of the Texas Panhandle through the weekend. The weather service noted a 30–60% chance of wind gusts over 40 mph on Thursday, creating conditions that can easily spread flames in dry fields and open lands.
Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and avoid burning activities until winds subside later in the week.
