AMARILLO, Texas – Another bitterly cold night is on tap for the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles, with temperatures plunging into the mid-teens and wind chills dipping into the single digits by early Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, lows will range from 13°F to 18°F across most of the region, including Amarillo, Borger, and Dalhart, while wind chills will fall as low as 3°F to 8°F in many areas before sunrise. Residents should plan for another frosty start, with icy windshields and frozen pipes possible if precautions aren’t taken.

Forecasters advise dressing in warm, layered clothing, allowing faucets to drip overnight, and bringing pets indoors. The coldest wind chills are expected between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. Tuesday, especially in open rural areas north and west of Amarillo where winds remain brisk.

Despite the frigid start, a gradual warm-up will begin Tuesday afternoon, with highs rebounding into the mid-40s under sunny skies. Milder air returns midweek before another front late in the week brings cooler conditions again by Friday.
