Texas Panhandle Weather: Storms and Thunder Threaten Travel Until Early Sunday

Lubbock, Texas – Drivers and residents across the Texas Panhandle should prepare for scattered showers and thunderstorms through Saturday night, with unsettled weather expected to impact the region. The storm activity could bring localized flooding and difficult travel conditions to West Texas communities.

According to the US National Weather Service in Lubbock, these storms are anticipated to develop throughout the afternoon and continue into the evening. While the main threat is heavy rain and thunder, temperatures will be below normal, with highs in the low 80s. Lubbock is expected to see a high of 86 degrees, while Childress and Brownfield will see highs around 81 and 87 degrees, respectively.

The unsettled weather system will affect multiple counties, including Lubbock, Hale, Motley, Childress, and Brown. Residents should avoid driving through flooded roadways and are advised to have a plan in place in case of power outages. Secure outdoor items that could be blown around by strong winds and be aware of potential lightning strikes.

The National Weather Service continues to monitor the situation, and residents should stay informed of any new alerts or warnings. The threat of storms is expected to diminish by early Sunday morning.
