AMARILLO, Texas – A Freeze Warning remains in effect for the eastern Texas Panhandle late Sunday through early Monday as Arctic air sweeps south, sending temperatures into the mid-20s by dawn.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, the warning runs from 9 p.m. Sunday to 9 a.m. Monday for Collingsworth, Donley, Gray, and Wheeler Counties, including Clarendon, Shamrock, Wellington, and Pampa. Temperatures are expected to dip to around 25°F, with widespread frost likely across the region.
Forecasters warn that the hard freeze will kill remaining late-season crops and threaten outdoor plumbing if left unprotected. Residents are urged to wrap exposed pipes, bring pets and plants indoors, and drain irrigation systems before sunset Sunday.
The Texas Department of Transportation cautions drivers about patchy frost and slick bridges during the Monday morning commute along U.S. 287, I-40, and Highway 83. Winds will remain light overnight, allowing efficient cooling under clear skies.
Temperatures will rebound slightly Monday afternoon under sunshine but remain well below normal for early November. Warmer weather is expected by midweek as a light southerly flow returns to the Panhandle.
