Amarillo, Texas – Drivers across the Texas Panhandle face significantly reduced visibility this morning as dense fog settles over the region. Visibility could drop to a half-mile or less in some areas, creating hazardous conditions for the morning commute.
According to the US National Weather Service Amarillo, the potential for dense fog is highest between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Thursday, with conditions expected to improve by 10 a.m. The affected area includes much of the central and eastern Panhandle, encompassing cities like Amarillo, Borger, Pampa, and Canadian.
Motorists should use low beam headlights and reduce speed to account for the diminished visibility. The low visibility will make travel challenging, particularly on major roadways such as I-40, US-287, and US-60. Delays are possible for those traveling through the affected counties, including Potter, Randall, Carson, Gray, and Roberts.
This fog event is the first significant low-visibility hazard for the region this season, emphasizing the need for heightened awareness on the roads. Remember to increase following distances and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility.
Drivers should remain alert for ongoing fog advisories and exercise extreme caution until conditions fully clear later this morning.
