Amarillo, Texas – Dangerous heat is returning to the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles, with temperatures set to climb as high as 105 degrees Thursday afternoon and evening, bringing a heightened risk of heat-related illness across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, a Heat Advisory will remain in effect from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday for most of the Panhandles, including Amarillo, Guymon, Dumas, Canyon, and Palo Duro Canyon State Park, where highs could reach 106. Humidity levels will add to the oppressive conditions, especially for those outdoors or without reliable cooling.

Residents in Amarillo, Pampa, Borger, Clarendon, and Perryton are urged to limit outdoor activity during the hottest hours, stay hydrated, and check on neighbors and relatives. Major parks and tourist spots such as Palo Duro Canyon State Park may see dangerous heat, especially along exposed trails and ridges. Emergency agencies caution everyone to wear light clothing and avoid strenuous tasks during peak heat.

The Heat Advisory is expected to last through Thursday evening, with slightly cooler temperatures forecast by Friday. Additional advisories may be issued if the heat persists.
