Amarillo, TX – Residents across the Texas Panhandle can expect a warm and windy Saturday, with the strongest gusts forecast between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Amarillo.

Temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 80s, with Palo Duro Canyon reaching around 89°F. The NWS reports this continues a warmer-than-normal trend for early October, with average highs typically near the upper 70s.

Wind speeds are projected to increase steadily through midday, bringing gusts of 30 to 45 mph across much of the region. The highest winds are expected in the western and northern Panhandle, including Boise City, Stratford, and Guymon.

According to meteorologists, the breezy conditions could cause loose outdoor items to blow around and increase fire danger due to dry vegetation. Gusts may remain elevated overnight, with speeds near 30 mph after dark.

While no advisories were in effect early Saturday, forecasters urge caution for anyone driving high-profile vehicles or conducting outdoor burns.

“This will be our first breezy-to-windy day of the fall season,” the NWS said in its Saturday morning update.
