Amarillo, TX – Residents across the Texas Panhandle should prepare for possible thunderstorms late this afternoon into the evening, according to the National Weather Service in Amarillo.
Forecasters said Tuesday that most of the region will remain dry, but a few isolated showers and thunderstorms may develop between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.. While the chance of rain is relatively low—estimated at 10 to 15 percent—any storms that form could quickly become strong.
According to the National Weather Service, the main concerns include hail and gusty winds if storms intensify. The risk is centered over the central and eastern Panhandles, stretching from Amarillo eastward toward Clarendon, Pampa, and Wellington.
Meteorologists emphasize that while most residents will not see rain, the isolated storms that do form could be impactful. Afternoon heat will act as a trigger for storm development, raising the possibility of localized hazardous weather.
Drivers and outdoor workers are advised to stay alert to changing conditions this evening, especially in areas east of Amarillo.
