Amarillo, Texas – Strong storms are expected to roll across the Texas Panhandle Friday evening, with a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in place until 11 p.m. for Dallam, Deaf Smith, Hartley and Oldham counties. Residents could face damaging winds, large hail, and dangerous lightning as the line of storms moves east.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, the watch remains active through late Friday night as instability and upper-level winds combine to fuel storm development. Emergency officials are urging drivers along U.S. Highway 87 and Interstate 40 to stay alert for rapidly changing conditions, including reduced visibility in heavy downpours.

Communities near Dalhart, Hereford, Vega and Channing should be prepared for strong wind gusts capable of downing tree limbs and power lines. Local utility crews are on standby in case of outages. Outdoor events and Friday night football games may be disrupted if storms intensify.

Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items, charge phones, and move to sturdy shelter when warnings are issued. While the current watch is scheduled until 11 p.m., additional advisories could be issued if storms persist into the overnight hours.
