Amarillo, Texas – Storm chances remain low across the Texas Panhandle today, but residents should stay alert as isolated severe thunderstorms could develop between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m., especially from Amarillo to Borger and Pampa.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, the chance of storm development sits between 10% and 20%. However, any storms that do form could bring damaging wind gusts up to 65 mph and hail as large as one inch. The highest risk window spans from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. west of Amarillo, and from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. in areas stretching toward Wellington and Clarendon.
Cities including Dumas, Vega, and Dalhart fall into the earliest threat window, while Amarillo, Borger, and Claude may see storms develop later in the evening. The risk is rated marginal (level 1 of 5), but sudden development cannot be ruled out.
Residents are urged to monitor alerts, secure outdoor items, and prepare for possible brief outages. While most areas will stay dry, those traveling this evening should stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings.
Storm chances taper off after 1 a.m., but updates will follow if conditions change.
