Amarillo, TX – Residents across the Texas Panhandle will have to wait a little longer for fall-like weather, as this week’s forecast calls for summer-style heat and breezy conditions lasting into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, daytime highs will stay between 85 and 95 degrees Wednesday and Thursday, with a slight dip to 80–90 degrees Friday through Sunday. Overnight lows are expected in the mid-50s to mid-60s.

Forecasters noted that south and southwest winds will increase Friday into the weekend, with gusts near or above 30 miles per hour at times. While a slight cooldown is expected by Saturday and Sunday, temperatures will still remain more typical of early June than early October.

No significant rainfall is in the forecast, meaning dry and breezy conditions could add to fire weather concerns in some areas. Officials remind residents to remain cautious with outdoor burning or any activities that could spark fires.

The National Weather Service said a true shift toward cooler fall conditions is still several days away, leaving Panhandle residents to endure one more stretch of summer-like weather to begin October.
