Amarillo, Texas – Temperatures are surging across the Texas Panhandle today, with highs climbing into the 80s by mid to late afternoon, creating a sharp jump well above seasonal norms.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, most communities will reach between 81°F and 85°F by around 4 p.m. Wednesday, roughly 15 to 20 degrees above average for mid-March. Amarillo is expected to hit near 82°F, while Guymon and Borger could reach 84°F, and Palo Duro Canyon may peak at 86°F.

Cities along I-40, including Amarillo, Vega, Shamrock, and Canadian, will see consistent warmth under mostly sunny skies. Winds will remain light, generally under 10 mph, limiting any cooling effect and allowing temperatures to rise quickly through the afternoon.

While conditions remain quiet, the early-season heat can still impact those working or spending extended time outdoors. Stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and take breaks during peak afternoon hours.

Dry weather continues into the next several days, with above-normal temperatures holding across the region before any significant pattern change arrives.
