According to the US National Weather Service Lubbock Texas, widespread temperatures will reach into the 90s across the region today, June 19, with a mild overnight period anticipated. Lubbock itself will hit a high of 94 degrees Fahrenheit with an overnight low of 71 degrees.
Cities throughout the South Plains will also feel the heat. Plainview is expected to reach 92 degrees, dropping to 68 degrees overnight. Childress will see the highest temperatures, soaring to 97 degrees today, with a low of 74 degrees. Further south, Aspermont could hit 96 degrees, with a mild low of 74 degrees. Friona is also in the 90s at 92, dropping to 66 overnight, while Brownfield sees a high of 94 and a low of 69.
With these rising temperatures, residents should prioritize heat safety. Drink plenty of water, limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, and check on vulnerable individuals.
