Amarillo, Texas – Slow-moving thunderstorms are dumping heavy rain across the Texas Panhandle this evening, especially near Amarillo, Washburn, and Slapout along the Oklahoma border, leading to rising flood concerns and dangerous wind gusts for drivers and residents.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, storms have stalled over key areas and will continue producing 50-70 mph wind gusts and moderate to heavy rainfall until at least 8 p.m. Monday. Localized flooding near Amarillo and northeast toward Beaver, OK—remains the main threat as rainwater overwhelms city streets and rural roads.

Travel on I-40, U.S. 60, and nearby county roads could be hazardous as minor street flooding develops. Residents from Borger to Canadian and up to Beaver should watch for quickly rising water, especially in low-lying areas. Emergency officials advise avoiding flooded roads and keeping mobile devices charged in case of outages or urgent alerts.

The threat will continue through this evening, with additional advisories possible if storms persist or expand. Stay tuned for updates from the National Weather Service as conditions change.
