Amarillo, Texas – Rain soaked much of the Texas Panhandle in June, with several cities surpassing 6 inches of total precipitation and Amarillo closing the month at 3.47 inches — nearly two-thirds of an inch above normal.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, June 2025 delivered widespread totals between 2 and 6.65 inches across the region. Borger led the pack with 6.65 inches, while Hereford, Channing, and Spearman also saw totals above 6 inches. Amarillo’s total, 0.62 inches higher than average, marks another wet month in what’s shaping up to be a notably damp year — the city is now 4 inches above its normal rainfall for 2025.

Cities including Dumas (3.63”), Canadian (4.04”), and Pampa (4.00”) also reported healthy totals, helping to ease ongoing drought concerns across the High Plains. The heaviest bands of rainfall tracked along US 60 and I-40, impacting both travel and rural agriculture zones.

Residents are advised to remain aware of potential flash flooding risks if this wet pattern continues into July. Saturated ground could amplify runoff in upcoming storms.

The NWS says more updates will follow if wet conditions persist through early July.
