According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, the best chance for triple-digit heat will arrive Friday and Saturday, with areas like Borger, Guymon, and Dalhart facing a 70–75% probability of reaching 100°F. Amarillo has a 60% chance of hitting that mark on Friday and a 35% chance on Saturday. Hikers and outdoor visitors to Palo Duro Canyon are being urged to avoid the canyon floor during the afternoon due to extreme heat risk.
Boise City and Canadian also face elevated heat potential, with temperatures expected to rise rapidly during late morning hours. Heat-related illnesses are possible, especially for those engaging in physical activity without hydration or shade.
Residents should limit outdoor activity to early mornings or late evenings, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Emergency services may see increased calls due to heat exhaustion and dehydration.
