Amarillo, TX – The National Weather Service in Amarillo has issued a Freeze Watch for parts of the eastern Texas Panhandle, warning of subfreezing temperatures expected late Sunday through Monday morning.
According to forecasters, temperatures could drop as low as 22°F, with the coldest readings likely in Gray, Wheeler, Donley, and Collingsworth Counties. Cities including Pampa, Clarendon, Shamrock, and Wellington are expected to see the coldest air of the season so far.
The watch is in effect from Sunday evening through Monday morning, and meteorologists warn that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, damage outdoor plants, and harm unprotected plumbing.
Residents are urged to wrap outdoor pipes, cover tender vegetation, and bring pets indoors before Sunday night’s chill. This cold front will mark a sharp temperature drop across the Panhandle, signaling the arrival of early winter conditions.
