Amarillo, TX – The Texas Panhandle could see a major temperature swing next week as a strong cold front moves in, according to early forecasts from the National Weather Service in Amarillo.
Meteorologists say a wave of “much cooler air” is expected to arrive by Tuesday or Wednesday, potentially bringing daytime highs down into the 50s — and possibly even the 40s in some locations.
According to the NWS, the current forecast calls for high temperatures ranging from the low 60s to the upper 40s, depending on how strong the front becomes. Forecasters noted a 25% chance that highs could stay in the 60s, but also a 10% chance that much colder readings in the 40s could take hold.
While this outlook is still preliminary, the agency emphasized that updates will be issued as models refine. “These values will definitely change as we get closer to next week,” the NWS stated.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and prepare for a noticeable temperature drop by midweek.
