Amarillo, TX – Strong winds and dry conditions will create critical fire weather risks across the Texas Panhandle on Friday. The National Weather Service warns that southwest winds could gust up to 35 mph, while humidity levels will drop to 5-10%.

According to the NWS Amarillo, the highest fire risk will be in the western and south-central Texas Panhandle. Grass dryness remains at “very dry” levels, making the region highly susceptible to wildfires. The combination of low humidity and gusty winds could cause rapid fire spread.

Residents should avoid outdoor activities that could produce sparks or flames. Officials urge extra caution with outdoor burning, equipment use, and cigarette disposal. Firefighters remain on standby due to the heightened wildfire risk.

The fire threat will persist through Friday afternoon. If a fire starts, it could spread quickly. Stay updated with local weather alerts and emergency warnings.
