Lubbock, TX – Residents in the Texas Panhandle are waking up to frigid temperatures today, with wind chills plunging into the single digits across the Caprock and teens in the Rolling Plains. A southwest breeze is amplifying the chill, making outdoor conditions uncomfortable for early risers.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, temperatures will gradually rise through the day, with highs reaching near 49°F in Lubbock by the afternoon. A cold front is expected to push through the region around noon, accompanied by breezy north-northeast winds.
Drivers along U.S. Highway 84 and Interstate 27 should remain cautious as wind gusts may impact travel, especially for high-profile vehicles. Despite the warmer afternoon, another cold night is on the horizon, with lows expected to dip near 20°F under mostly clear skies.
The extended forecast offers some relief later in the week. Thursday will remain sunny, with highs near 40°F and calmer winds. By Friday, temperatures will climb further, with highs approaching 54°F. The weekend brings partly sunny skies and highs in the low 50s, making for a mild and pleasant few days ahead.
Residents are advised to bundle up when heading out this morning and to monitor updates on changing wind conditions throughout the day. Stay prepared for fluctuating temperatures and plan accordingly for the cooler evenings.
