Lubbock, TX – Residents across the Texas Panhandle and South Plains are urged to remain cautious Monday as a Fire Weather Watch takes effect from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Unseasonably warm temperatures, gusty winds, and low humidity are expected to create critical fire conditions, heightening the risk of rapid fire spread.

According to the National Weather Service, sustained west-northwest winds of 20-30 mph, with gusts reaching 45 mph, will combine with humidity as low as 10%. These conditions, coupled with dry fuels, significantly increase fire hazards for areas including Lubbock, Amarillo, and surrounding counties. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.

Monday’s forecast predicts a high of 71°F under sunny skies, with breezy conditions persisting throughout the day. Winds will ease slightly overnight as temperatures dip to 33°F. However, dry weather will continue into the week.

Five-Day Forecast for Lubbock, TX:

• Monday: Sunny and breezy, high of 71°F, low of 33°F. Fire Weather Watch in effect.

• Tuesday: Cooler, sunny, high of 52°F, low of 28°F.

• New Year’s Day (Wednesday): Sunny, high of 51°F, low of 33°F.

• Thursday: Sunny, high of 53°F, low of 30°F.

• Friday: Partly cloudy, high of 55°F.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items, avoid activities that could spark fires, and monitor local updates for potential Red Flag Warnings.
