Amarillo, TX – Residents in the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles should prepare for high winds and fire danger Monday as spring weather conditions bring dry air and gusty conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch from noon to 10 p.m. Monday, warning of winds up to 55 mph and humidity as low as 9%.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, the alert covers multiple counties, including Potter, Randall, Carson, and Oldham in Texas, as well as Cimarron and Beaver in Oklahoma. Wind speeds are expected to range from 20 to 39 mph, with gusts reaching 55 mph. The dry conditions combined with strong winds significantly increase the risk of wildfires.
Looking ahead, Amarillo’s five-day forecast includes:
• Monday: High of 74°F, partly sunny, windy with blowing dust in the afternoon. Gusts up to 55 mph.
• Tuesday: High near 56°F, a slight chance of showers, and very windy with gusts up to 65 mph.
• Wednesday: Sunny with a high of 56°F, much calmer winds.
• Thursday: Partly sunny with a high near 65°F.
• Friday: Warm and sunny, high near 63°F.
