Amarillo, TX – Drivers across the Texas Panhandle are urged to use caution as dense fog reduces visibility to less than a quarter-mile. Freezing fog may also create slick spots, particularly in the northwest.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Amarillo, a Dense Fog Advisoryremains in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday, impacting major routes such as I-40 and U.S. Highway 287. Visibility is expected to drop significantly overnight, increasing the risk of accidents. Drivers should slow down, use headlights, and avoid cruise control in affected areas.

The Thursday forecast calls for morning fog clearing to partly cloudy skies, with highs reaching 51°F and a slight chance of showers in the afternoon. Friday and Saturday will bring sunny conditions and warming temperatures, with highs in the mid-60s. By Sunday, temperatures may reach 73°F under clear skies.

Residents should remain cautious during the morning commute but can expect improving conditions heading into the weekend. For real-time updates, check weather.gov or follow local NWS alerts.
