Amarillo, TX – A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. CDT this morning across much of the Texas Panhandle and the Oklahoma Panhandle, where thick fog is reducing visibility to one-quarter mile or less, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Amarillo.
The advisory includes Cimarron County in Oklahoma and several Texas counties such as Potter, Randall, Moore, Deaf Smith, Hartley, Sherman, Dallam, Gray, Hutchinson, and Armstrong, impacting communities including Amarillo, Dalhart, Dumas, Pampa, and Borger.
The NWS reports that Amarillo, Dumas, and Dalhart have all experienced visibilities below half a mile since early morning, making travel hazardous on highways and rural roads. “If driving, slow down, use low beam headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you,” forecasters advised.
Conditions are expected to improve gradually after 9 a.m., as temperatures rise and fog begins to lift. However, drivers should remain alert for lingering patches of fog, especially in low-lying areas and near river valleys.
