Amarillo, TX – Residents of the Texas Panhandle can expect a rollercoaster of temperatures over the next few days, with a chance of snow on Tuesday bringing a reminder of winter’s grip.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, Friday will bring unusually warm temperatures, with highs reaching 60°F under sunny skies. However, temperatures will plummet over the weekend as strong north winds usher in colder conditions. Sunday’s high will struggle to reach 40°F, while lows drop into the teens overnight. The weather will continue to cool into early next week, with a high of just 35°F expected on Tuesday.
A 20% to 30% chance of light snow is predicted for the western and central Panhandles on Tuesday, particularly along major routes such as I-40 and U.S. 287. Although accumulations are expected to be light, drivers should be prepared for slick spots, especially during the morning commute.
Monday will offer a brief reprieve with highs in the mid-40s, but Tuesday’s snow chances and sharp winds will quickly change conditions. Northeast winds of 5 to 15 mph will add a chill to the air, making outdoor activities less comfortable.
Residents are encouraged to prepare for the cold snap by checking their vehicles, ensuring proper heating, and avoiding unnecessary travel during potential snow events. Keep an eye on updated forecasts for potential changes as the week progresses.
