Amarillo, TX – Thunderstorms are expected to develop across Amarillo on Tuesday afternoon, potentially disrupting outdoor plans and making evening travel more challenging. The National Weather Service warns the strongest storms may arrive between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., bringing gusty winds, brief heavy rain, and frequent lightning.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, Tuesday will start mostly sunny with highs near 86°F, but moisture and instability will increase through the day. The chance of storms rises to 60% by evening, with the possibility of localized flooding in low-lying streets and reduced visibility on highways such as I-40 and US-287. Residents should avoid outdoor activities during peak storm times and keep electronics charged in case of power outages.

Storm chances will diminish overnight into Wednesday, which is expected to be sunny with highs near 90°F. Another hot, dry stretch is forecast mid- to late week, with temperatures climbing into the mid-90s by Thursday.
