Texas–Oklahoma — A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across portions of the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles until midnight CST Friday, with snow, gusty winds, and icy conditions creating hazardous travel.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, additional snowfall of up to 2 inches is expected across Beaver County in Oklahoma and multiple counties in the Texas Panhandle, including Hansford, Ochiltree, Hartley, Moore, Hutchinson, Oldham, Dallam, and Sherman counties. Wind gusts may reach up to 40 mph, which could reduce visibility at times and worsen driving conditions.
The advisory covers a wide area, impacting communities such as Perryton, Spearman, Borger, Dumas, Vega, Dalhart, Stratford, Beaver, Guymon-area roadways, and surrounding rural locations. Snow-covered roads and icy patches are expected to make travel difficult, especially during the Friday evening commute.
In Dallam and Sherman counties, a previously issued Winter Storm Warning has been canceled and downgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory. Forecasters noted that while snowfall amounts are lower than initially expected, the combination of snow, ice, and strong winds still poses a travel risk.
The National Weather Service warned that bridges and overpasses may become slick first, increasing the likelihood of accidents. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and avoid sudden braking.
Road condition information is available by calling 844-465-4997 in Oklahoma and 800-452-9292 in Texas. Conditions may change quickly as snow continues through the evening hours.
The advisory is scheduled to expire at midnight CST, with gradual improvement expected overnight as snowfall tapers off.
Residents should continue monitoring official National Weather Service updates and local travel advisories.
