Amarillo, TX – The National Weather Service in Amarillo has issued a Freeze Warning for the entire Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles, effective from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. CDT Wednesday, as an early-season cold snap moves through the region.

Forecasters say temperatures could fall to near 25 degrees, marking the coldest night so far this fall for areas including Amarillo, Borger, Canyon, Dalhart, Perryton, and Guymon, OK.

According to the Weather Service, frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, damage sensitive vegetation, and harm unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents are encouraged to cover plants, bring pets indoors, and drain sprinkler systems before temperatures drop overnight.

The warning affects Cimarron, Texas, and Beaver counties in Oklahoma, and all Texas Panhandle counties from Dallam to Donley, including Palo Duro Canyon State Park.

Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing through early Wednesday before gradually warming by afternoon. This freeze event follows a dry, mild October but signals a sharp turn toward winter conditions across the southern High Plains.
