Amarillo, TX – Snow and freezing conditions are expected to impact travel across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Amarillo.
Forecasters say confidence in snow totals remains “medium,” with most areas expected to see between a trace and 2 inches of accumulation. The heaviest snow bands may develop from Amarillo and Canyon north toward Dumas and Dalhart, potentially resulting in localized totals of 1 to 3 inches.
According to the NWS, snow could begin across the northwestern Panhandle by midafternoon, spreading southward through the evening and overnight hours. The most likely window for snow around Amarillo and surrounding areas is between 3 a.m. and 10 a.m. Thursday.
Potential impacts include slick roadways, icy sidewalks, and reduced visibility due to falling and wind-driven snow. The weather service urges residents to use caution during the Thursday morning commute and to monitor for updates as conditions evolve.
