Amarillo, TX – Thunderstorms will return to the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles beginning Tuesday night, bringing a string of active weather days and cooler temperatures through the end of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, a cold front pushing into the region late Tuesday will trigger scattered thunderstorms, some of which could impact evening travel and outdoor plans. The most widespread activity is expected Wednesday, with a 50% chance of storms and highs dipping into the upper 70s to low 80s.

Cities like Amarillo, Dalhart, Guymon, and Pampa will see elevated thunderstorm chances through Friday, though storm coverage will likely decrease by Thursday and Friday. Tuesday and Wednesday may bring brief periods of heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds.

Drivers should stay alert for sudden downpours and potential ponding on roads, especially during commutes. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel during storm periods.

The cold front will knock daytime highs down from the low 90s into the upper 70s across the region, offering brief relief from summer heat.

More updates are expected as new storm data becomes available. Watches or warnings could be issued if stronger storms develop midweek.
