Amarillo, TX – A damp start to the week greets Texas Panhandle residents as scattered showers roll across the region today. The National Weather Service in Amarillo reports that a few thunderstorms could develop across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles through this evening before drier, sunnier skies take over midweek.

According to the National Weather Service, a 40% chance of showers and a few rumbles of thunder are expected through this afternoon. Drivers on I-40 and U.S. 287 should plan for brief wet conditions and limited visibility during heavier rainfall. Winds will shift north later today, ushering in cooler, crisper fall air.

Tuesday brings a mix of clouds and sun, with only a slight 20% chance of isolated showers in the afternoon. By Wednesday, October 15, skies will clear completely with highs near 80°F, signaling a bright return to classic Panhandle fall weather—perfect for outdoor events, pumpkin patches, and early Halloween decorating.

Looking ahead, Thursday and Friday remain mostly sunny, with highs in the upper 70s and lows dipping into the low 50s. Gusty winds up to 25 mph may develop late in the week as another weak front approaches, but no severe weather is expected.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor decorations and drive cautiously during early-week rain.
