Corpus Christi, TX – A dense fog advisory is in effect for the Texas Gulf Coast near Corpus Christi, where visibility on coastal waters has dropped to less than one mile early Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, the advisory covers multiple bay and coastal regions including Baffin Bay, Upper Laguna Madre, Corpus Christi and Nueces Bays, as well as waters extending 20 nautical miles offshore from Baffin Bay to the Matagorda Ship Channel. The advisory began at 12:18 a.m. CDT and remains in effect until 1 p.m. CDT Sunday.
Boaters navigating in these waters may experience hazardous conditions, as the fog significantly reduces visibility. The National Weather Service warns mariners to proceed cautiously, use appropriate fog signals, and ensure running lights are functioning properly. Radar and compass navigation are also recommended.
This type of dense marine fog is common during spring months when humid air moves over cooler water. Similar advisories have occurred around this time in previous years, often leading to brief delays for small watercraft and fishing vessels.
Mariners planning to depart Sunday morning should consider waiting until the advisory expires or conditions improve before heading out.
