Houston, TX – A dense fog advisory has been issued for Galveston Bay, Matagorda Bay, and surrounding Gulf waters, significantly reducing visibility for marine traffic through Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, the advisory began at 9 p.m. CDT Sunday and will remain in effect until 10 a.m. CDT Monday. Visibility is expected to drop between one-quarter to one-half nautical mile, creating hazardous navigation conditions across nearshore waters, including areas from Freeport to the Matagorda Ship Channel and from High Island to Freeport.

Marine operators are urged to proceed with extreme caution. The NWS recommends using radar and compass tools, turning on all running lights, and sounding proper fog signals when navigating.

This type of dense fog is not unusual for the upper Texas coast during early spring, particularly in the overnight and early morning hours when moisture levels are high and winds are light.

Boaters and commercial vessels operating in affected zones should consider delaying travel until conditions improve. Visibility is expected to increase by late morning Monday as fog lifts with rising temperatures and sunlight.
