Conroe, TX – A Woodlands man was arrested after investigators linked him to a series of thefts targeting high-end athletic apparel from The Woodlands Mall, authorities said.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, deputies from the South Patrol Division responded to a shoplifting incident on August 27. Investigators reported that the same suspect had allegedly stolen merchandise from the store repeatedly over the past month. Deputies identified the suspect as David Dupree, a resident of The Woodlands.
On September 4, deputies executed a search warrant at Dupree’s residence. Authorities said they recovered narcotics along with suspected stolen merchandise. Dupree was arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Jail, where he was booked on charges of possession of marijuana and theft under $2,500.
Investigators later discovered Dupree had previously been convicted of theft six times. Because of his prior record, what began as misdemeanor theft charges were elevated to felony charges, the sheriff’s office said.
No injuries were reported in connection with the theft incidents. Authorities did not release the total value of the stolen merchandise.
Deputies urged businesses in the area to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity as retail theft cases continue to affect local stores.
