HOUSTON, TX – A Harris County man has been charged after authorities said a dangerous game involving a rifle and protective helmet turned deadly inside a residential neighborhood.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on Sunday, Aug. 17, to a home in the 23700 block of Pennington Hills Drive. Investigators said they found 34-year-old Aaron Prout, a United Kingdom native living in Harris County, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Prout was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said investigators learned that Prout and the homeowner, identified as 37-year-old Sean O’Donnell, were allegedly taking turns shooting at each other inside the house while one of them wore a helmet. Detectives said the activity, initially thought to be a possible suicide, was later determined to be an alleged reckless act between the two men.
On Thursday, Aug. 28, investigators charged O’Donnell with the alleged murder of Prout. He was booked into the Harris County Jail, with the Violent Crimes Apprehension Team (VCAT) assisting in the arrest.
Sheriff Gonzalez credited HCSO detectives Craig, Davis and Sgt. Miller’s team for unraveling the case after initial circumstances raised questions. “With thorough follow-up investigation, the truth was ultimately revealed,” Gonzalez said in a statement.
Authorities did not immediately release bond information for O’Donnell.
