Lake Charles, La. – Triple-digit heat index values and steamy afternoons with scattered thunderstorms will dominate the weekend weather across southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, daily highs will climb from the lower 90s on Saturday to near 98°F by Monday in cities like Alexandria and Jasper. Thunderstorm chances linger each afternoon—especially Saturday and Sunday—ranging from 40% to 60%, primarily after 2 p.m. The combination of heat and humidity will create “Major to Extreme” heat risk levels starting this weekend.

In Lake Charles and Lafayette, highs are expected to reach 93°F by Monday. Heat-related illnesses become more likely under these conditions, especially for vulnerable groups and those working outdoors. Overnight lows will stay warm and muggy, in the upper 70s.

Residents in DeRidder and Crowley should expect similar conditions, with Sunday highs nearing 94°F and humidity driving up the heat index. Rain chances remain spotty, but any storms could bring brief relief from the heat.

Stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. This warming trend will continue into next week, with temperatures near 99°F possible by midweek.
