Austin, TX – Light freezing rain and drizzle are expected to develop across central and southeastern Texas from Friday evening into early Saturday morning, creating hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio, ice accumulation between a few hundredths to a tenth of an inch is possible, primarily on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. The freezing precipitation is expected to begin as early as 6 p.m. in isolated areas, expanding to most of the region by 9 p.m. Temperatures will remain near or below freezing overnight but are expected to rise above 32°F by 9 a.m. Saturday, reducing the risk of further ice accumulation.
Drivers are urged to use caution, particularly on elevated surfaces where ice may form more easily. Minor impacts are anticipated, but even light icing can make roads slick and dangerous. Travelers should check local weather updates and road conditions before heading out.
Authorities advise residents to prepare for potential delays and take necessary precautions when traveling overnight and into Saturday morning. For the latest weather alerts and updates, visit weather.gov/ewx.
