Austin, TX – Central Texas residents are bracing for one final day of extreme heat as temperatures are expected to approach 100 degrees today. The National Weather Service warns that the heatwave, which has gripped the region for several days, will continue through Tuesday before a significant cold front arrives late tonight. The hot weather will impact the I-35 corridor from Austin to San Antonio, with highs pushing 98-99 degrees, making today a critical day for heat-related precautions.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to plummet by Wednesday, with a high near 74 degrees in Austin and similar relief across the region. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms could develop by Friday, offering some much-needed moisture. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Roads may also experience heat-related stress, especially on key routes like I-35.

Wednesday’s forecast offers welcome relief, with sunny skies and a more comfortable high of 74 degrees. Winds are expected to shift to the northeast, bringing gusts up to 15 mph. This cooldown will continue through the end of the week, with Friday seeing highs in the mid-80s and partly cloudy skies.

As temperatures moderate, expect a pleasant weekend, with isolated showers possible on Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will remain mild, with highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s.
